COVID-19: Rwanda's preparedness and response

Africa Organic Conference 2022

The African Organic Conference is held every 3 years, where the 4th AOC was held in November 2018 in Sally - Senegal, the 3rd AOC was held in October 2015 in Lagos, Nigeria, the 2nd AOC in May 2012 in Lusaka, Zambia while the 1st AOC was held in Kampala, Uganda in 2009.

The 5th AOC brings together over 300 organic stakeholders from across Africa and Europe to participate, share experiences, successes, challenges and ideas that will contribute towards strengthening the organic sector in Africa. The conference is an avenue to create more linkages among different organic actors (producers, consumers, traders, policy makers, donors and scholars) and those engaged in different levels of organic value chains. Though it is not yet known when the COVID-19 pandemic will end to create an opportunity for full physical meetings, we anticipate the 5th AOC will be conducted both physical and virtually through provided high profile online mediums of communication like zoom, Facebook live streaming and Skype among others.
We expect hundreds to thousands of actors to follow the conference on-line depending on the platforms identified and their capacity to sustain participants.

The 5th AOC is adapting the AUC theme for the year 2022 as “Strengthening Resilience in Nutrition and Food Security on the African Continent: Strengthening Agro-Food Systems, Health and Social Protection Systems for the Acceleration of Human, Social and Economic Capital
The conference will run sub-themes under different sessions to address the main theme under four tracks. The conference topics shall be presented through four tracks to address critical areas that are vital in organic agriculture development. These tracks include;

  • Farmer’s track,
  • Markets and Trade track,
  • Research track, and
  • Policy track.
