The Africa Soft Power Summit represents the premier event for Africa's creative and tech industries, as well as women's leadership, attracting speakers and delegates from across the continent and around the world. The environment provides a fresh take on the traditional conference format, with breakout sessions, social events, roundtables and workshops, and plenty of scope for more networking along the way.

2023 AfRES East African Chapter Annual Conference

The African Real Estate Society (AfRES), was founded in 1997 and it is a continent-wide organization that seeks to promote networking, research and education among property professionals across Africa. AfRES is also affiliated to the International Real Estate Society (IRES), along with sister societies in North America (ARES), Asia (AsRES), Europe (ERES), the Pacific Rim (PRRES) and Latin America (LaRES). AfRES membership is currently organized in three regional chapters including: (1) Southern Africa (2) Western Africa and (3) Eastern Africa region. AfRES usually organizes annual conferences every year and the conference is hosted regionally in turn by the three aforementioned chapters. However, each chapter organizes a regional conference also on annual basis and that conference is hosted by a willing member country to enhance regional cohesion of member countries and allow exchanges among regional neighboring members. The Eastern African chapter regional conference has been hosted last time in Nairobi,Kenya, and this time the chapter's annual conference will be hosted in Kigali Rwanda from 25th to 26th of May 2023.

This conference will be conducted under the theme: “The Next Generation of Real Estate in East Africa, the effect of IT”; to discuss how information technology is currently affecting and becoming part of different aspects of real estate at regional level without failing to learn from other corners globally. This theme has been chosen because the real estate sector is ever-changing and being re-defined by technological advancements and nowadays technology is used to ensure seamless and efficient solutions to real estate problems. Therefore, the shift towards real estate technology cannot be ignored, embracing technology means that the real estate world will grow exponentially as more “tech solutions” towards economic development. Some of the areas we observe technology advancement in real estate sector include real estate big data analysis that considers all the latest industry trends, the advancement of the use of Artificial Intelligence commonly known as AI, in decision making processes to predict the “perfect” investment opportunities to investors eyeing real estate industry, social media use in real estate marketing and advancement in building technology which is environmental friendly and promotes low-cost housing construction

Grand Challenges Rwanda

Rwanda is joining a growing global network of innovations to leverage efforts from members of the global Grand Challenges family. This will broaden collaborations and mutual R&D funding for ground breaking innovative research projects. This will lead to products and services as unique solutions, and to develop innovations through research exchanges, best practices and experiences with global and African researchers.
Grand Challenges prioritize funding opportunity to high-level quality ideas by researchers and innovators with exciting ground breaking innovative research projects leading to products and services as unique solutions. The emphasis is that research developed in partnership with industries, companies and academic institutions using highly recognized labs, industries, innovation hubs and other settings leads to products, services and knowledge and technology transfer, as well as strengthen the ties between global and African
collaborators.

The Government of Rwanda continues to fund research and development (R&D) to build research and innovation excellence. The goal is to enhance data-driven innovations to transform industrial development and improve the wellbeing of Rwandan citizens.

Grand Challenges was established in 2003 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland to fund ground-breaking scientific research on specific unique health challenges in a country using bold mind ideas and innovative solutions.
Several African countries such as Ethiopia, South Africa and Botswana have launched Grand challenges. Science Foundation for Africa (SFA) based in Nairobi coordinates Grand challenges in Africa to develop innovations on the African continent.

African Union Development Agency- New Partnership for Africa's Development (AUDANEPAD) facilitated a planning meeting in Kigali on 20-21 March 2023 for Grand Challenges Rwanda Launch. In partnership with national stakeholders, Science for Africa Foundation (SFA) and AUDA-NEPAD National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) will launch Grand Challenges on 18-19th May 2023.

Pan Africa Mathematics Olympiad 2023

From May 13th – 22nd 2023, Kigali will host the 30th edition of the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO 2023). It will be the first time that Rwanda has hosted PAMO. The most talented young students from across Africa will come together to solve challenging mathematical problems in a friendly competition.

The Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) is an annual prestigious event of the African Mathematics Union (AMU) organized each year, since 1987, in an African Country where the best pupils in mathematics of secondary education who are less than twenty (20) years old, are invited to compete.

PAMO 2023 will be co-hosted by AIMS (African Institute for Mathematical Sciences) Rwanda in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda in partnership with UR-CE (University of Rwanda College of Education) and UR-CST (University of Rwanda College of Science and Technology).

The UNESCO Man And Biosphere (MAB) Regional Network for Africa ( AfriMAB) 2023

The AfriMAB Network was established in October 1996 in Dakar, Senegal. The network was created with the overarching objective of enhancing the capacity of its members to position biosphere reserves as special places for innovation in support of environmental conservation and sustainable development.

AfriMAB members initially came together in the form of parallel Francophone and Anglophone workshops. The first technical workshop of the Francophone network was held in October 1999 at the UNESCO Regional Office in Dakar, while the first AfriMAB workshop for Anglophone countries was organized in September 2000 at the United Nations Office in Nairobi. Focusing on key features of biosphere reserve organization and implementation, these initial technical workshops addressed the following topics:
1-Legislative and regulatory frameworks, 2-Participation of partners and social actors and income sharing, 3-Scientific research and capacity building 4-Transboundary biosphere reserves.

The AfriMAB Technical workshop in 2023 will be the 7th Edition, with the theme: “Ecosystem Restoration in the context of sustainable development: African Biosphere Reserves leading the way towards 2030”

It is expected to bring attract participants including conservationists, Biosphere Reserve managers, Protected Areas Managers, conservation Professionals, experts and academicians in the Conservation field.

19th ILO Regional Seminar

The Government of Rwanda, through the Ministry of Public Service and Labour (MIFOTRA), is delighted to host the 19th Regional Seminar for Labour-based Practitioners in Kigali, from the 15th to 19th May 2023 under the theme, “Promoting skills and productive (decent) jobs for our common better future”.

Seminar background

The past eighteen Regional Seminars have been held in various African Countries drawing practitioners and other interested stakeholders from Africa, America, Asia and Europe to share views, experiences and review developments in employment-intensive approaches.

During the 19th ILO Regional Seminar, participants will discuss and share experiences, policies and strategies on how to create communities that are resilient to socio-economic, environmental and climate change hazards and ensuring just transition through labour intensive approaches.

Expected Participants

Seminar participants come from a range of institutions, including policy makers, employers' and workers' associations and labour-based technology practitioners, development partners, NGOs, higher academic and research institutions and the private sector.

Why participating?

The whole world is currently grappling with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and active conflicts that are threatening global order and affecting the livelihoods of millions of people around the world. The Regional Seminar provides a platform to reflect on these challenges and their impact on the economics and the people of the region, suggesting mitigation measures with a focus on employment and employability.

The 19th Regional Seminar will focus on drawing the attention of national and regional governments, the private sector, and development partners towards policies, strategies and programmes that promote the creation of jobs, skills learning and business opportunities for African young women and men.

BAL 2023

The 2023 BAL season will the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL)

The first round of the qualifying stage consists of 20 teams that play in four groups of five, each held in different cities. In the Elite 16, the teams are joined by 6 teams that successfully qualified during the previous 2022 BAL qualification. Two groups of five teams are played to determine the six teams that advance to the main tournament.

YALE Model African Union

The Model AU component will expose participants to the inner workings of the African Union while allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the physical center of African Leadership. Through the 6 committees offered at YMAU and the speeches from relevant speakers within them, participants will gain a first-hand look into the intricacies of the political process in shaping the experiences of those on and beyond the continent.

Through leadership development workshops whose topics reflect different iterations of the African Union, participants will leave the conference with the leadership skills necessary to affect change within their communities and beyond.
