Move Afrika: Global Citizens

This December Global Citizen, pgLang, and Kendrick Lamar are coming to Rwanda to debut Move Afrika – the opening event of a first-of-its-kind music tour across the continent of Africa.

Move Afrika is a five-year effort that aims to promote health and equity, defend our planet, and create jobs and economic opportunity.

The inaugural event, Move Afrika: Rwanda, will focus on the need to strengthen health systems, with a specific emphasis on supporting community health workers; addressing the climate crisis, particularly its impact on food security, and securing support for smallholder farmers; and tackling the lack of access to economic opportunities for future generations.

Hanga Pitch Fest 2023

The largest in-person technology event in Rwanda designed to ignite & inspire innovation, Hanga Pitch Fest is returning for its third edition. The third edition of Hanga Pitch Fest is brought to you by The Ministry of ICT and Innovation, Rwanda Development Board, and the United Nations Development Programme.

At Hanga Pitch Fest 2023, a pair of fresh initiatives will be unveiled. Startups will get a unique opportunity to connect with early-stage investors while displaying their startups in The Hanga Dealroom. On the other side, the Hanga Ideathon will be launched to promote innovation in higher learning institutions. Students will have a platform to present creative concepts thanks to this interesting component, which will inspire them to become the next wave of entrepreneurs and inventors. Participants will have exciting opportunities to network with angel investors, pitch their ideas, and encourage innovation at the Hanga Dealroom and Hanga Ideathon.

International Federation of Medical Students' Association (IFMSA) Africa Regional Meeting (ARM)

The International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), founded in
1951, is one of the world's oldest and largest student-run organizations. It represents, connects and engages every day with an inspiring and engaging network of 1.3 million medical students from 139 national member organizations in 130 countries around the globe. IFMSA envisions a world in which medical students unite for global health and are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values to take on health leadership roles locally and globally, so to shape a sustainable and healthy future.

IFMSA Regional Meetings (RMs) are among the biggest youth-led events around the world, which are held in all five regions according to the WHO division These events are unique
opportunities for medical students to learn, discuss, meet and exchange knowledge and experience.
The IFMSA African Regional Meeting is the official annual meeting of all African NMOs with the candidate, associate, or full membership status in IFMSA, that aims to bring the NMOs of the region together to work towards IFMSA and regional goals as well as the NMOs' common objectives.

International Conference on Typhoid & Other Invasive Salmonelloses 2023

Every two years, the Coalition against Typhoid, based at the Sabin Vaccine Institute, convenes the International Conference on Typhoid and Other Invasive Salmonelloses. The event brings together researchers, policymakers and advocates to invigorate and coordinate the global response to typhoid and other invasive salmonelloses by:

Advancing the knowledge base through disseminating new data on typhoid and other invasive salmonelloses epidemiology in endemic countries
Sharing and promoting best practices and strategies in the implementation of prevention and control methods for typhoid and other invasive salmonelloses
Catalyzing the uptake and roll-out of the typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV)
Equipping participants with tools to contribute to national, regional and global advocacy efforts in the fight against typhoid and other invasive salmonelloses
Fostering partnerships across sectors and regions to strengthen prevention and control efforts for typhoid and other invasive salmonelloses.

Unleash Rwanda 2023

UNLEASH Rwanda is an Innovation Lab for the Sustainable Development Goals where hundreds of young change-makers from all over the world will get together in Kigali during the first week of December, where they will co-create solutions for the most pressing challenges that our planet is facing.

During the Lab, 1,000 young participants from all over the world will come up with new ideas and co-create innovative initiatives through human-centered design thinking – a process that focuses on the real needs of the people that the solution caters to.
Experienced facilitators and experts will guide the participants through different stages of the innovation process:

Problem Framing
Defining a problem based on user needs and clear insights

Ideation
Brainstorming and selecting ideas to solve the problem

Prototyping
Creating simple versions of the idea to understand how it will work in real life

Testing
Testing the solution with users, learning, and adapting

Implementing
Planning and launching impactful solutions

IWA Water and Development Congress & Exhibition 2023

The International Water Association's next edition of the Water and Development Congress & Exhibition will take place in Kigali, Rwanda.

A forum for showcasing new science, technology and practical solutions across the entire water cycle that can work at scale in low- and middle-income countries.

With an overarching theme of Water, sanitation, and climate resilience – keys to a water-wise future, the 2023 edition will present solutions spanning water and sanitation services, the role of water in urban areas, the links between cities and basins, and the opportunities to achieve climate resilience.
