Nuclear Energy Innovation Summit for Africa

The summit serves as a platform for U.S. officials, African ministers, policymakers, industry leaders, and technical experts to engage in discussions about the future of nuclear power on the African continent. The primary objectives of USANES include fostering international cooperation, sharing innovative solutions, and shaping policies to advance nuclear energy development in Africa.

The inaugural summit took place from October 30 to November 1, 2023, in Accra, Ghana, hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Nuclear Power Institute of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission. This event marked the first Pan-African gathering organized by the United States focused on nuclear power’s future in Africa.

The second summit was held from August 27 to 30, 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya, in partnership with the Kenyan Nuclear Power and Energy Agency and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Kenya. The theme was “Industry Readiness,” featuring educational workshops, interactive sessions, and panel discussions on topics such as workforce development, stakeholder engagement, nuclear financing, supply chain management, and the role of women and youth in the workforce.
